My domain won't verify

Find the DNS record that failed and fix the verification issue.

Check the individual records

Both DKIM and SPF must show DNS verified. An unverified DMARC record doesn't block domain verification.

Find the failed check

Open Sending Domains → your domain → DNS Records. Read the Status and message below each required record, then check its last-check time.

ResultWhat to check
Not checkedRun Verify domain to get a result.
Not foundConfirm the record is saved at the right DNS provider and host name.
Does not matchCompare the published value with SendMero's value or edit instructions.
Multiple recordsReview conflicting SPF or DMARC policies with your DNS administrator.
Invalid recordReview the reported syntax or policy error.
Check unavailableTry the check again. If it persists, ask your DNS provider to investigate resolution.
Setup neededRequired values are unavailable. Contact support to complete setup.

Fix common setup issues

IssueFix
Records added at the registrar, but DNS is hosted elsewhereEdit records at the provider serving your active nameservers.
Domain appended twiceIf the zone is example.com, enter mail where the provider expects a host, not mail.example.com. Check the final saved name.
Incomplete DKIM valueCopy the full content from SendMero. If the provider requires quoted chunks, keep them in one TXT value.
A second SPF policy was addedKeep one v=spf1 policy per hostname. Follow SendMero's instructions to include its sender without removing existing senders.
DNS was just changedAllow cached results to expire, then check again. Use your provider's expected update window.

For Cloudflare, these records are TXT, which are always DNS-only. There is no proxy setting to disable for them.

Check what DNS returns

If you have dig available, query each record's full name. Replace these examples with your domain and the DKIM selector shown in SendMero:

dig +short TXT selector._domainkey.mail.example.com
dig +short TXT mail.example.com
dig +short TXT _dmarc.mail.example.com

Compare the returned TXT values with the domain page. An empty answer alone doesn't identify the cause; check the saved name, active provider and DNS update timing.

For a deeper check, ask your DNS administrator to query the authoritative nameserver directly. See Cloudflare's DNS troubleshooting guide.

Retry verification

  1. Save the corrected records at your DNS provider.
  2. Return to the domain page and click Restart verification, Verify domain or Recheck DNS, whichever is shown.
  3. Wait for the check to finish and review the updated results.

If it still fails, share the domain name, failed record, check message and last-check time with support. For Paused status, review the domain configuration with your workspace administrator or support.

Best practices
  • Keep unrelated DNS records and existing email policies intact.
  • Don't delete and re-add the domain to troubleshoot a DNS value.
  • After each edit, check the new result before making another change.
