Send your first email

Send an email to your own inbox with the API or SMTP.

Use your own inbox

This sends a real email. Use your own address as the recipient for the first test.

1. Prepare your message

Have your verified sending domain and saved credential ready.

FieldWhat to use
FromAn address on your verified domain, such as hello@mail.example.com.
ToYour own email address.
SubjectMy first SendMero email
MessageHello! This is my first email through SendMero.

2. Send with the API or SMTP

Choose the method that matches the credential you created.

API

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your full API key, from with your sender address, and to with your own inbox. Run this command from your terminal:

curl --request POST 'https://api.sendmero.com/v1/messages' \
--header 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY' \
--header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{
"from": "hello@mail.example.com",
"to": "you@example.net",
"subject": "My first SendMero email",
"text": "Hello! This is my first email through SendMero."
}'

A successful response includes an id for your message. Save it so you can find the email later.

SMTP

Open your app's outgoing mail settings and enter:

SettingValue
Hostsmtp.sendmero.com
Port with STARTTLS587 (or 2587)
Port with implicit TLS (SSL/TLS)465 (or 2465)
Usernamesendmero
PasswordYour SendMero API key, including its live_ prefix

Save the settings, then send a message using the fields above. The SMTP password is your API key.

3. Check the result

Open your recipient inbox and look for My first SendMero email. Check spam or junk if it isn't there.

An API success response or SMTP acceptance confirms submission, not delivery. Open Activity in SendMero to check what happened to the message.

For a REST API error, see Error codes. For an SMTP error reply, see SMTP replies.

Best practices
  • Send one message first and confirm the result before sending more.
  • If a request times out, check Activity before retrying to avoid sending a duplicate.
