Find a message

Search Activity and inspect a message's recipients and timeline.

Start with the message ID

Use the message ID from the API response, or from the SMTP 250 reply (queued as msg_…), to locate one email without mixing it with other messages to the same recipient.

Search Activity

  1. Open Activity in the workspace that sent the email.
  2. Enter a Message ID, Recipient, or metadata filter.
  3. Choose a Date range that includes when the message was received by SendMero.
  4. Click Search. Use Load more for older matching results.
FilterHow it works
Message IDFinds the exact message, such as msg_….
RecipientMatches the full email address, including recipients in To, Cc or Bcc.
StatusMatches the message status or any recipient's current status. Failed includes bounced, rejected and expired outcomes.
Sending domainNarrows results to the selected sending domain.
Date rangeFilters by when SendMero received the message, not its delivery-event time.
Metadata key / Metadata valueFinds messages using an application identifier supplied with the send request, such as order_id and 88231.

Filters combine: a correct message ID can still return no results if the date range or status excludes it. Clear resets the filters. Subject and credential searches aren't available in this screen; use the subject displayed in results to recognize a message.

The number at the left of the Search button shows how many messages match your filters, for example 156 messages. It counts all matches, not just the ones loaded on the page.

Open Activity from the Overview

Chart points, bars and table rows on the Overview and its Bounce summary open Activity with filters already applied. The extra filters appear as chips under From Overview: the outcome (for example Bounced), mailbox provider, bounce type, bounce reason and SMTP code, plus the exact time window. Remove a chip with its ✕, or with the keyboard (Tab to the chip, then Enter or Backspace), to widen the search, or press Clear to reset everything.

With an outcome chip, the Overview window applies to when that outcome happened, not to when the message was received. See Find what's failing.

Choose a date range

Use Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, All time or Custom range. All time searches available stored activity; it doesn't recover records that are no longer retained.

Dates are shown in the time zone displayed below the filters. A custom range includes both selected calendar dates. Check the time zone when matching a message to your app's logs.

Open message details

Click the eye icon (View message details) beside the message. The dialog shows:

DetailWhat to inspect
Message IDCopy it to correlate the email with your application or support request.
Status, From, Subject, ReceivedConfirm you found the correct email.
RecipientsCheck each address's outcome and any SMTP response.
MetadataReview your app's identifiers. Click a metadata chip to search other messages with the same key and value.
TimelineFollow processing and delivery events, timestamps, attempts and available failure details.

One message can have different outcomes for different recipients. Read the relevant recipient's status rather than relying only on the message-level badge.

Export what you found

Select Export to download the messages in your search as a CSV, or all of their delivery events as a CSV or JSON Lines file. See Export events.

If you can't find the message

What you seeWhat to try
No matching messagesClear unnecessary filters, check the full address or ID, and widen the date range.
No activity yetConfirm the send request was accepted and that you are in the correct workspace.
Activity isn't connected yetContact your workspace administrator or support; this environment's message store isn't configured.
A loading or request errorTry the search again. An error doesn't confirm the message was never sent.

If a send timed out, search before retrying. The request may already have been accepted.

Best practices
  • Save the returned message ID with your application's record.
  • Add useful metadata at send time; it can't be added through Activity later.
  • Include the message ID and affected recipient when asking for help.
