The suppression list

The suppression list holds the email addresses SendMero will not send to, so one bad address cannot keep hurting your sender reputation.

When a message has a suppressed recipient, SendMero leaves that recipient out. The message still goes to everyone else, and the suppressed recipient is shown as Suppressed in Activity. You are not charged for a recipient that was left out.

Every message is checked

The list applies to all your mail, whether it is a receipt or a newsletter. There is no setting that sends to a suppressed address for one kind of message only.

Why an address is added

ReasonHow it gets on the listWhat it means
Hard bounceAutomatically, when a message to the address fails for good (for example the mailbox does not exist).Sending again will almost certainly bounce again and hurt your reputation.
Spam complaintAutomatically, when the recipient marks your email as spam and their mailbox provider tells SendMero.Sending again can harm your reputation and annoy the recipient.
UnsubscribedWhen the recipient unsubscribes (see Unsubscribe links), or when you add the address with this reason. The person asked to stop receiving your email. By default it applies to the sending domain they unsubscribed from.
Added manuallyWhen you add the address yourself, by hand, from a file or through the API.Your own decision, for example a "do not contact" request.

An address can have more than one reason. The list shows the strongest one first (spam complaint, then unsubscribed, then hard bounce, then added manually) and the others under it.

What you can do

Good to know

  • Addresses are compared in lowercase, so Jane@Example.com and jane@example.com are the same address.
  • Removing an address lets SendMero send to it again. Do this only when you are sure the recipient wants your email.
  • Changes take effect for the next message that is processed.
  • Anyone who can view suppressions can search and export the list; owners and admins can change it by default. See Roles and permissions.
