Import and export

Bring your existing do-not-contact list into SendMero, or download your list.

Both are on the Suppressions page. Importing needs the manage suppressions permission; exporting needs view suppressions.

Import a file

Select Import, choose a file, choose a reason, and select Import. You can download a sample CSV from the dialog.

Limits: up to 10,000 addresses and 2 MB per file. For more, split the file and import the parts one after the other.

CSV format

The first line is a header. The address column is called email (e-mail, email_address and address also work). A note column is optional (up to 500 characters).

email,note
jane@example.com,Asked us to stop by phone
john@example.com,

JSON format

A list of addresses, or a list of objects with an email and an optional note:

[
"jane@example.com",
{ "email": "john@example.com", "note": "Asked us to stop by phone" }
]

Choose one reason for the whole file

ReasonUse it for
Added manually (default)Your own do-not-contact list.
Hard bounceAddresses that bounce for good.
Spam complaintAddresses that reported your email as spam.
UnsubscribedAddresses that unsubscribed.

To import addresses with different reasons, import one file per reason.

Unsubscribes from one group

For the reason Unsubscribed, add an optional group column (CSV) or group field (JSON) with the name of one of your unsubscribe groups or with a sending domain. The address is then unsubscribed from that group only. Without it, the address is blocked for the whole workspace. A row with an unknown group is rejected and listed in the summary, and a group cannot be used with any other reason.

What you see afterwards

ResultMeaning
Rows readHow many addresses the file had.
AddedNew addresses now on your list.
Already on the listLeft as they were. An import never changes an address that is already suppressed.
Duplicates in the fileThe same address more than once; it is counted once.
RejectedRows that cannot be used, for example something that is not an email address. The first problems are listed with their row number.
FailedAddresses that could not be saved because of an error on our side. Import the same file again to save them.

Importing the same file twice gives the same list. A problem in one row never stops the other rows.

Export your list

Select Export, choose CSV or JSON, and select Export. If you have searched or filtered, only the matching addresses are exported; otherwise you get the whole list.

A file has at most 100,000 addresses. It contains each address, its reason, all of its reasons, the source, the details, and when it was first and last seen.

If a cell in a CSV starts with =, +, - or @, SendMero adds a leading apostrophe so a spreadsheet does not run it as a formula.
