Manage the suppression list

Find a suppressed address, add one, or remove one, from Suppressions in the dashboard.

Open Suppressions in the left menu. You need the view suppressions permission to see the page and the manage suppressions permission to change it. Owners and admins have both by default.

Search and filter

Use the bar at the top of the page:

FilterWhat it does
Email addressFinds addresses that contain what you type, for example jane@ or example.com.
ReasonShows only addresses with one reason: hard bounce, spam complaint, unsubscribed or added manually.
SourceShows how the address got on the list: an event (for example a bounce), an import, the API or the dashboard.
Last seenShows only addresses seen in the last 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days. Dates use your workspace's timezone, shown next to the label.

Select Search to apply the filters and Clear to start again.

The cards under the search bar count the addresses that match: the total, and how many have each reason. With no filters they describe your whole list; with filters they describe what you searched for. An address with two reasons is counted under both.

The table shows each address, its reason, where it applies ("All mail", or the sending domain of an unsubscribe), where it came from, the details (for a bounce, the receiving server's response), and when it was first and last seen.

Add an address

  1. Select Add address.
  2. Enter the email address and, if you like, a note (up to 500 characters) that explains why.
  3. Select Add address.

The address is added with the reason Added manually. If it is already on the list for another reason, nothing changes and you are told so.

Remove an address

  1. Find the address and select Remove.
  2. Write the reason you are removing it. It is saved in the audit log.
  3. Select Remove.

Some addresses need extra care:

  • Spam complaints can be removed only by an owner or an admin. Sending to someone who reported your email as spam can harm your reputation.
  • Unsubscribed addresses need you to confirm that the recipient has opted in to your email again.
  • Hard bounces can be removed, but they will probably bounce again.

An address that has several reasons is removed completely, with all its reasons.

See why a recipient was left out

In Activity, open a message that has a suppressed recipient. Under the address you see Suppressed, the reason, and a View in Suppressions link that opens the list already searched for that address.

On Overview a Suppressed card shows the size of your list and how many addresses were added in the last 7 days. View list opens the Suppressions page.

Audit log

Every addition, removal, import and export is written to the audit log with who did it and, for removals, their reason.
