Submission Outcomes
The send API returns its result directly from POST /v1/messages. There is currently no message-status lookup endpoint. The former GET /v1/messages/{id} route is unavailable and returns 404 not_found.
| POST result | Meaning |
|---|---|
status: "accepted" | The submission is confirmed for queued processing. This does not confirm delivery to a recipient server or inbox. |
status: "validated" | The request passed the applicable test-mode checks. No production email was queued. |
error.acceptance: "not_accepted" | This request is known not to have been accepted. Correct the cause or retry only when the error permits. |
error.acceptance: "pending" or "unknown" | Acceptance is unresolved. The email may already be queued; do not automatically send another POST. |
Save the original response and any message ID and request ID your application received. If a response is lost or acceptance is uncertain, contact your administrator with the available IDs for investigation. No lookup, polling, cancellation, or automatic recovery endpoint is provided. A 404 on the removed lookup path says nothing about whether an earlier email was accepted.
Every POST is independent and can create another email with new IDs and its own recipient allowance. Integrated delivery and delivery reporting remain outside this preview.
See Send Email for request and response fields, Test Mode for validation without sending, and Rate Limits & Retries and Error Codes for handling failures.
SMTP replies
Over SMTP the result is the server's reply to the end of the message, not a JSON body:
| Reply | Meaning |
|---|---|
250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as msg_… | The message is accepted for queued processing, the same as status: "accepted". Keep the msg_… ID. This does not confirm delivery. |
4xx | A temporary problem or a limit was reached. The message was not accepted; try again later. |
5xx | The message was refused and retrying the same message will not help. |
If the connection drops before you see the reply, treat the outcome as uncertain, as for a REST timeout, and do not resend automatically. See SMTP for every reply.
